Five Element Acupuncture

The Five Element Acupuncture approach is an ancient classical practice. It is based on the concept that we are made up of five elements which work together via a generating and controlling cycle, affecting all aspects of the health of our Body, Mind and Spirit.

The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Each element corresponds to a set of energetic organs in the body and certain characteristics, such as the expression of particular emotions, our mental capabilities and specific physical functions. For example, in health the Wood element is thought to give us our ability to plan the future and make well thought-through decisions, to express anger when appropriate as well as healthy eyes and vision. When any of these functions are habitually impaired it points towards a constitutional imbalance in that particular element.

The practitioner’s aim is to identify and correct the unique root cause of illness, or the “weakest link element”, by considering the physical, mental and emotional areas of a person’s health. This process of supporting a person back to authentic health can lead to an overall sense of well-being and have long lasting physical and emotional benefits.
